 +====Evolution====
 +  * A place at the table
 +  * Equity at the table
 +  * A table of our own with shared and distinct responsibilities for mission and charism

-Even before the Second Vatican Council, many laypersons turned to religious communities to assist the religious in their mission and to work or volunteer in their ministries. They also sought the assistance of religious for growth in their spiritual livesin societies and prayer groups, in individual conversation, and in spiritual directionBeginning in the 1970s and 1980s, religious communities welcomed associates, offering them formation and a forum to develop their spirituality and their commitment to missionInitially, the number of associates was small, in comparison to the number of sisters, and associates were invited to many of the sisters' celebrations and events. They came and committed themselves as individual associates in the broader community of sisters. Over time, some communities invited increasing involvement of associates in the life of sisters’ communities, and questions arose regarding whether or not there should be boundaries or limits on participation of associates in the life of the sisters, and what those should beIt became clear that there were different understandings of the naturepurposeand character of associationboth among sisters and among the associates. As the movement continues to developthere is growing desire to identify an Association that has a modicum of autonomy to inviteform, and engage associates and to develop their own leadership for the AssociationThis Association has its own internal authority and ‘center-of-gravity’ alongside the sisters’ community. And they move toward a more mature partnership and shared responsibility for charismmission, and spirituality while retaining the distinct charism of religious life and lay spirituality. Many acknowledge that the growth of an Association, in partnership with the Religious community is a positive development+====Stuctural Options====
- +=== Nonprofit Corporation ===
-This evolution has not been completely linear and has not been without significant growing pains. Because it is a movement that has developed in many different places times and charismsit has had the benefit and challenge of differing hopes, dreams, and expectations. +  * Current reality
- +    * Within the civil structure of religious community
-Associates and Religious continue to explore the contours of these developments, hoping to understand how an Association can help to give form and support to the growing movement, without clipping the wings of the spiritTest everything, hold to what is good, as the scriptures say. We bring from the movement both the old and the new, and word to integrate the blessings of the past with the evolutionary developments of the presentalways ready to embrace the call of the spirit into hope and holiness+    * Administrationbudgeting, and finances
- +  * A separate civil corporation for the Association
-There is a strong sense of God's inspiration and the “new thing” that God is doing with and for the community of faith. Yet they also face the challenges of the growing organization with its need to balance structure and flexibility in bringing the charism into lived expression.+    * moving toward autonomy in relationship
 +  * Similar to sponsored ministries
 +    * In the religious community's corporation
 +    * Separately incorporated.
 +    * Increasing autonomy
 +    * Long-term viability
 +=== Association of the Christian Faithful ===
 +  * Canons 298 - 329 - possibilities
 +  * Canon 298 §1 __In the Church there are associations__ that are distinct from institutes of consecrated life and societies of apostolic life. In these associations__Christ's faithful__whether clerics or laityor clerics and laity together__strive with common effort to foster fullness of lifeor to promote public worship or Christian teaching__They may also devote themselves to other __works of the apostolate, such as initiatives for evangelizationworks of piety or charity, and those which animate the temporal order with the Christian spirit__
 +  * Canon 299 §1 By __private agreement__ among themselvesChrist's faithful have the right to constitute associations for the purposes mentioned in can. 298 §1, without prejudice to the provisions of can301 §1.
 +    * E.g. St. Vincent de Paul [[https://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/pontifical_councils/laity/documents/rc_pc_laity_doc_20051114_associazioni_en.html| examples]]
 +  * Canon 301 §1 It is for the __competent ecclesiastical authority__ alone to establish associations of Christ's faithful which intend to impart __Christian teaching__ in the name of the Church or to promote __public worship__or which are directed to other ends whose pursuit is of its nature reserved to the same ecclesiastical authority
 +    * E.g. sponsoring Catholic Schools
 +  * Canon 303 Associations whose members live on their own but share in the spirit of some religious institute, under the overall direction of the same institute, and who lead an apostolic life and strive for Christian perfection, are known as third orders, or are called by some other suitable title.
