Term of Leadership

  • Canon Law
    • Canon 624 Terms §1 Superiors are to be constituted for a certain and appropriate period of time according to the nature and need of the institute, unless the constitutions determine otherwise for the supreme moderator and for superiors of an autonomous house.
  • Constitution 6.09 … holds office for a term of six years and may not serve for two consecutive terms of office.
  • Request - elect for three years, with the possibility of a second consecutive term.
  • Manner of request
    • Vote on request and ask to implement at next chapter 2029
    • Chapter makes a request immediately of Rome requesting expedited treatment if the desire is to implement at this chapter. Can elect, assuming permission, but understanding that if it is not granted, the superior and councilors serve 6 years.

Future Chapters

  • Canon Law
    • Canon 631 General Chapter §1 The general chapter, which holds supreme authority in the institute according to the norm of the constitutions, is to be composed in such a way that, representing the entire institute_, it becomes a true sign of its unity in charity. It is for the general chapter principally:
      • to protect the patrimony of the institute mentioned in can. 578,
      • promote suitable renewal according to that patrimony,
      • elect the supreme moderator,
      • treat affairs of greater importance, and
      • issue norms which all are bound to obey.
    • §2. The constitutions are to define the composition and extent of the power of a chapter; proper law is to determine further the order to be observed in the celebration of the chapter, especially in what pertains to elections and the manner of handling affairs.
  • Constitution 6.23 Chapter membership consists of elected members who make up the majority and ex-officio members, namely the congregational leader, the congregational councillors and the province and regional leaders. Perpetually professed sisters have the right in accordance with church law and congregational law, to both active and passive voice for the election of members, whilst termporary professed sisters have active voice. The manner of election of members to the chapter is determined by the congregational leader with the consent of her council and must ensure that the chapter represents the whole Congregation and is a true sign of its unity and charity.
  • Diminishing capacity: Age, Travel
  • Possibilities - a robust pre-chapter process with smaller shorter delegate chapter.
